First Ranking of Corporate Sustainability in Colombia Published
    by Robert Kropp

The ranking of the 20 most sustainable companies operating in Colombia uses research framework and methodology developed by Sustainalytics.

Last November, Sustainalytics announced the formation of the Latin American Sustainable Investment Forum (LatinSIF), the region's first such organization. The formation of the Forum was driven by the Colombian Securities Exchange (BVC – Bolsa de Valores de Colombia), Sustainalytics, and Deloitte, “to create a network among the region’s financial and corporate players to collaborate and share knowledge about responsible investment.”

Partnering with Semana Sostenible (Sustainable Week), a Colombia-based magazine that focuses on corporate social responsibility (CSR) issues, Sustainalytics also had a hand in the development of the first ranking of sustainable corporations in Colombia. Published late last month, Las 20 Más Sostenibles “intends to raise awareness among investors and businesses about the growing importance of corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance among global capital markets,” Sustaina lytics stated in a press release.

“The companies included in the ranking were selected using Sustainalytics’ research framework and methodology for measuring corporate ESG performance,” the research firm continued. “The selected companies had the highest overall ESG scores among Colombia-based companies in Sustainalytics’ research universe.” Sustainalytics also stated that the highest-raning companies came from a variety of industry sectors and performed well when measured against sector and industry best practices.

“‘Las Más 20 Sostenibles’ shines a light on some of Colombia’s sustainability leaders,” said Alejandro Navarro of Sustainalytics. “As the global sustainable investment movement continues to grow and Latin American markets continue to open up to foreign investment, it is important for the Latin American business community to be aware of the importance of ESG factors for foreign and local investors.”
